First of all, it’s been such a long time since I have posted a book talk that I am kinda nervous. But I owe it to this book to post a book talk….because IT IS THAT SPECIAL. So, here it is.😁

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

They’re not the heroes we deserve. They’re just the ones we could find. Nobody panic.

Now, bucle up guys! (for my ramblings!)😅

This is gonna sound crazy, but has it ever happened to you? 🤪Where you become a huge fan of a Writer without ever reading their books, because you are so blown away by the reviews and the small snippets and synopsis, but then you just never got the chance to read it..but then you never stop recommending it. Okay! Now that was definitely NOT complicated.😅 So, I am a huge fan of Jay Kristoff and as to how I became one….well..I just told you. So..I just read my first Jay Kristoff book…which is also written by Amie Kaufman and U gotta believe me folks when I didn’t fail to live up to my expections. And go way beyond. 😍🤩

Rant Review:

Holy Cake!! Okay…first things first….I actually buddy read this book with a bookstagrammer friend of mine.😊You might wanna check out his account, where he posts pretty book pics 📚.

I was actually scared of reading this book, not gonna lie. Scared because although I seem to love Jay’s writing without ever reading a whole book written by him, I was very excited…and I was scared that I would hate it. Plus it’s science fiction.

But oh boy, oh boy! The first chapter pulled me right in!!!!!😱

Full of sarcasm, jokes on the face of danger, recklessness, romance, action scenes, amazing plot, go-down-in-history friendship, twists, and turns too!!! This book was EVERYTHING!!!

There wasn’t a single moment that I got bored. Every chapter made me wish that this book would someday be turned into a movie!! ‘Cause it’s soo amazing! But then again I don’t want that. I don’t want the story to be spoiled.

That’s all for the non spoilery section. Let’s jump right in to DISCUSSION! ( SOUND OF TRUMPETS)

[Spoiler Alert.]

Can I just borrow a few minutes and straight out fangirl over Tyler Jones. Captain Tyler Jones. Ughh!! Goldenboy! He was frickin’ awesome!😍 He has all the qualities that a good leader should have. I admire his character, not only because he is witty and charming…but because he conveyed a VERY important message. To have faith.

“We the legion. We the light. Burning bright against the light.

He had faith not only in Aurora, but also those each and every six members of his squad that the entire legion thought was useless. He had faith in them. And he brought everyone together…he made them feel belonged, he gave them hope…he gave them a reason to believe. And now…’s the six of them against the world.

And Cat!! Zero!! The ace who never missed. Jay and Amie…they just had to kill her.😩 Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how well -planned and descriptive this book was…without being boring?👏 Honestly…the book moved soo fast and soo much happened that I didn’t get the full weight of her death. But the perspective was….just MINDBLOWING.

Oh and Kal! All the THRONE OF GLASS FANS OUT THERE !!! Kal is like Rowan Whitethorn reborn!! I mean almost. But if you ever like or loved Rowan…you will love Kal!! And he is such an amazing warrior! There’s this intense escape scene, when a few GIA soldiers come in…and the entire squad struggles to fight…but when they turn around all of them are lying knocked out cold…and Kal staring right back at them…with a poker face…like as if he was saying…..“what’s next?” 😆

“They’re all out cold, I realize. Battered and bloodied, bones broken. Scar, Cat, and Finnian are looking at our Tank, half -awed, half -terrified, all silent.”

Also, one of my favourite moments was….the whole tricking the GIA and then the apparent betrayal of Cat, which was not exactly a betrayal. It was AMAZING!!!

You know what …this book has been such a breather…that I don’t think I can say anything other than….Mothercustard guys!! Please read this book!”🥺😬

So onto sharing some of my favorite lines:-

“But they have not seen their sun die. Their people burn. Their world end. And they do not know yet, that there are some breaks that cannot be fixed.”

“For now, stay beside me and do not stray.”

(This one happened in the midst of an action scene.)

….Also, I need a bathroom break. Why does that never come up in spy movies?”🤣

“A hundred of my people,” he says. “A hundred songs now silenced. A hundred lives and thousands of years, lost to the void.”

“But sometimes, you just gotta have faith.”

“Fan -bloody -tastic.”

“She’s got heart, this girl.”

……that’s going to be a never ending list. I might as well write another post consisting of my favourite lines from this book.😅

Have you read this book? Do you have one such book…that completely blew away your mind?!😵

    1. Thank you soo much! Yes! Please do read this book. Like I said…I was hesitant to read it too… because it’s science fiction and all that. But this book doesn’t use many technical terms…. it’s very similar to world building in a fantasy book. you won’t feel left out I promise.🥰📚…..if you read it, I hope u like it.🤞

  2. Awww yes talking about a book you love is simply the best!!

Ah, I’m also not a sci-fi reader as well so I’m so encouraged that you were sucked in instantly! Unfortunately I couldn’t read the whole review because of spoilers but so far it seems so epic – I LOVE sarcasm and jokes in danger, thank you for also pointing out the friendship aspect… I’m now even more hyped to get my hands on this book…
