Honestly, I don’t know what to say. I don’t belong to this community, but I have some really cool friends from here – fictional and in real life. And I just…I guess I just want to you know that I support you guys! Never change who you are, never stop all that awesomeness, and just keep being you!
I am not sure how things are in other places, but in my country I know that it’s really brutal. Only a few years ago, it was made legal, and even then when queer couples want to get married, their parents take cases to the court and their argument is that – it goes against their holy scriptures. I mean no comments on that, because I don’t want pious people to come attack me now. But just know that, it’s those same religious scriptures which say that everyone is made for a reason, everything happens for a reason. So, there you go.
And I am really grateful to this book community and all the #ownvoices authors for coming out and telling stories to the whole world, because for me – I found out the meaning of gay when I was in standard seven or eight, and that too because students in my class bullied this certain boy. And I didn’t really get the meaning. My parents don’t talk about it, no one actively talks about it, trans people in our country are made fun of. They don’t get jobs, they are thrown out, considered an abomination, and they have to live off of pennies that people donate on roadsides.
And it’s really annoying when you support LGBTQ+ rights, and people give you weird judgy looks and ask you, “why? are you one of them?” I mean gods above, something is wrong with these people. Not that I would mind being queer, but seriously. I mean, I support animal rights too. Do I look like a fucking sparrow to you?!
It wasn’t until I started watching booktube, later that same year and then stumbled across bookstagram, and read more diverse books did I come to know of it. So, I educated myself and I found out that people are not just limited to she or him.
We have so many different kinds of people, all living in the same place. And I think that’s really exciting! I mean who says that human civilization is boring, huh?
People discover themselves each day, find a little bit about themselves each day, so as fellow humans, we should have it in ourselves to let them grow, let ourselves grow, and just be.
And isn’t it a wonderful thought? That we are not limited to liking a certain gender, or adopting a certain gender. We can be anything and everything.
We are limitless.
I wrote that. 😁 That’s me smiling goofily, because I wasn’t sure what this post was gonna be like, but I guess it turned out well. 😁 I am felling happy. 🌈 I have another post sitting in my draft, with a list of few of the LGBTQ+ books on my TBR, and I had planned to post this with it, but I figured this deserved all the attention. 🌸
So, what are your thoughts on this? Have you ever faced any struggles? Maybe you could share in the comments below, if you are comfortable! and once again – happy pride month! I really hope that I didn’t offend anyone with my thoughts, please let me know, and I will rectify it.
*also, your “offense” will not be not be considered if you are homophobic or heterosexist* 😶
