Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag ft. pictures because i am lazy

Is anyone freaking out? Because I am not. On the contrary, I am legit bored. Yeah, I can’t believe it’s already the middle of the year either, but I am still bored. Everything feels a bit bland at this point. It’s been more than a year and I haven’t been to school, but of course that doesn’t make the teachers go easy on us. Instead, it feels like their new mission in life is to make life as hard for us as possible and guess what their justification for this increased excessive insane amount of pressure is? The reason is, quote and quote, “All of you are sitting at home anyways, so extra work.” :))

Anyways, onto the legendary Mid Year Book Freak Out tag minus the freaking out and just so you know I am going to cheat because, I am proud to say that I am a morally grey character. So, pleased to have said that. And I haven’t slept in three days in a row now, so you can blame my overdramatic-ness and uh bluntness to that. And just ignore the fact that I am writing this while my teacher drones on about amino acids in the background. In short, I am bunking. Unfortunately, even bunking is not that fun nowadays. It’s like a usual thing. Also, I am rambling. Please play along in the comments. Would love to know your answers!

Red, White & Royal Blue: A fairytale in the real world. That’s what this book is. Enemies to Lovers (no surprise there), gay romance, exceptional side characters, a prince, throw in some politics, sprinkle over with some amazing parent-child relationship, and finally stir it with a whole lot of drama. And trust me. Whatever amount of drama you put in, it WILL fall short.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon: Did she really drink the freaking moon? No, of course not. Damn. Something is wrong with me. But anyways, is anyone here a fan of whimsy? Not nonsensical whimsy. Whimsy that makes sense. Ahem, I mean kinda makes sense. There is only one word that will do justice to this book – Magical. Okay, I lied. Two words – Magical and Lyrical.

These Violent Delights: Set in Shanghai 1926 and a Romeo and Juliet retelling. Need I say more? And don’t worry, it’s not Shakespeare. We have got stabby female characters, gun to the throat Enemies to Lovers, LGBTQ+ rep. Not convinced yet? It is fast paced. Chew-your-nails fast paced, lots of gore, and A.N.G.S.T. Have fun ;)) Oh, and let me drop in and say – it has a found family trope too.

Now, if you have read these three books, or any of these three books – message me immediately. We MUST be friends.

A Court of Silver Flames: Can’t give away a lot without spoiling the rest of the series. So, go read ACOTAR series and hate the last book (you will, rest assured) and then don’t give up. Come back and read this series once you are an adult (don’t worry, I am not 18+). If you are looking for good plot, don’t even look at this book. Burn it. But if you are looking for excellent mental health rep and sexual tension (we love that) and the everlasting angst (we stan that) – this book is exactly your cuppa coke. (yeah, I don’t drink tea). Also, do NOT venture near this book if you hate smut. I see people read this knowing it has a lot of smut and then hating on it. I mean-

Should I just copy-paste the goodreads synopsis? Because, I know even less than the synopsis of these books. In fact, I don’t even know the synopsis. All I know is that –

The Ones We’re Meant to Find: Has some sort of climate change sci-fi as a genre? I have no idea what that this. Check out Amanda’s post here to know more and find some new books in the process.

The Quantum Weirdness of the Almost Kiss: Well, for a change, look at me jumping over a best friends to lovers book. Yeah, I love these peasants at times too.

Ace of Spades: It’s hands down the cover. No other reason period. Well, maybe the fact that everyone has been raving about it.

You’ve Reached Sam: Well, don’t know a lot about this book either except that it SCREAMS PAIN and deals with grief. And I love grief. Give me some morbid books to cry over, and I shall never forget you.

Our Violent Ends: Aha yes! The long awaited sequel to These Violent Delights. Yeah, it’s just a duology. Needless to say, I have been doing all things possible (including secretly plotting the murder of the people who have the ARC of this book) to keep me distracted. But knowing the original Romeo and Juliet story, it’s like asking to get my heart broken. Ha Ha. That’s me laughing monotonously. We love pain. Ha Ha.

A Shadow In The Ember: A spin off series/prequel series/supporting series I don’t know what this is :)) But it’s related to the Blood And Ash series, and I am here for it. After all, it’s the subject of my recent obsession. And because, I think Jennifer is one of the most talented authors ever, and I could write a post about her, but I need to stop because my insomniac mind would just keep going on otherwise.

XOXO: Okay, first of all look at the cover. Did you look at it? Now, look again because I don’t have any words to describe how immaculate it is. Damn. Not a huge fan of k-pop boy bands, but am a huge fan of some k-pop music and I LIVE FOR THE K-DRAMAS. They constitute like the remaining part of my brain not occupied by books, music, story ideas, and random shit. Just read the synopsis, guys. All shall be known.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue: I gave it 4 stars. Well, then how on any world is this a disappointment? Have you just looked at the amount of hype this book received? It’s like the word overrated is underrated when it comes to this book. I really liked the concept, the idea, the research and hard work put in behind it – but personally it was only good for it’s lines. Besides, it was slow paced. My life is like a train running out of fuel types dragging slow. I don’t need more slow shit in my life. I want action and tear-my-hair-out excitement and frustration. So, it was a disappointment in a sense, I expected more.

Cinderella Is Dead: The world is a shitty place, not counting you book-loving besties. I turn to fictional worlds, in my historical search of humans and interesting nice fun cool humans. Not annoying characters with no depth who make stupid decisions at every turn. I love drama. But this had me cringing. Just couldn’t connect with the characters.

Hush, Hush: This is said to be the “Hottest Book of 2010”, but honestly it feels like the only thing hot about it is the weather. It had an interesting start. But that’s about it. I don’t even know what this book was ugh.

One Last Stop: Well, slow paced. And a whole lot of other reasons and I rant about them here. Check it out only if you are ready to handle some hate. I couldn’t control myself hehe.

From Blood And Ash: The whole entire effing series. Not writing anything about it at all, because it will just remind me how badly I need the sequel which comes out next year. Ha Ha. Yeah, I am barely surviving. Glad you understand.

Jennifer Armentrout: Her stories are what we like to call ADDICTION. I feel like all her books are easily binge-able. Honestly, all I ever hear people saying about her books is the smut. The effing smut. And after I read it, the smut is really spicy, yes. But, the smut is not the only thing. I mean, dude she has really awesome world-building, spits out books like at machine speed, awesome characters, original ideas, unique takes on tropes, great action scenes, feminist books, no toxic relationships – I mean all of this is great! There is a lot of diverse characters as well, but as far as I remember there weren’t any LGBTQ characters. But I might be wrong.

Kelly Barnhill: I have nothing to say except, I am nursing this really painful urge to read literally all of her books but unfortunately some of them are not available in my country. But we’ll get there don’t worry. I said, “DON’T WORRY!”

Aiden Thomas: Check out my review of Cemetery Boys here, and it will say enough about my love for this author. I want to like gobble down all the books that he writes, and these are the times I hate useless activities that keep me from getting to my tbr, for example – life :))

Chloe Gong: I think this post says a lot about it. I don’t know if she has any more books planned after These Violent Delights duology, but whatever book she spits out – I AM HERE for it.

Casey McQuiston: Just scroll up and read my thoughts on RW&RB. Alex and Henry supremacy.

If you have shed your precious tears for this book, I have said it before and I shall say it again. We MUST be friends.

I Love You So MochiSarah Kuhn has written this book for me, and solely me. No shit. This book is a cinnamon roll. A perfect blob of sugar. This book was just so incredibly relatable on so many different levels – I don’t even know where to start. Please read this if you are in your teenage years. Trust me. You need this in your life. If you are an older someone, probably stay away from it? I feel like, you won’t enjoy it and just find it immature. And someone!! I need to plan a trip to Japan after reading this book. Phenomenal Place ah!

Prettiest books I bought this Year 2021

Please excuse my poor attempt at photography. I do have a bookstagram account, but my photography skills are as noteworthy as a Hamster’s. But here you go –

All’s Well That Ends Well. I feel like that’s how the creator wanted the tag to end. Hope you had fun.

Whoa. This was probably the most chaotic post I have ever written. And fun too. I guess. Maybe I should write posts whenever my mind is sleep deprived lmao, and subject all of you to my messiness. Hope you enjoyed this!

See you in the comments. All of the above questions apply to you too! I am just too lazy to ask them again! So, please do let me know in the comments below <33

  1. why am I finding your bluntness so funny- 🤣🤣 those graphics are amazing, ash! 👏 I’d be way too lazy to ever take the time and make individual graphics for all the questions. 😅
I love the photos you took of those books!! 🤩 I believe the only book I’ve read here is The Girl Who Drank The Moon (it was good, but I didn’t like it all that much) so I can’t share my thoughts there. 😭😭 wow, nehal and aanya’s recent sob emoji craze has rubbed off on me too. 😂

  12. I think The Poppy War. Most probably because it has war in the title. And I like poppies. No seriously, I think I would read that. I have honestly tried to read modern books but somehow I always go back to Somerset Maugham and Evelyn Waugh.

  17. Ugh, that’s awful. I think teachers should be more lenient during this time when everyone is under so much stress. These Violent Delights was such a great read. I can’t wait for the sequel. I really want to read Ace of Spades as well, it sounds sooo good. Ha, I have a personal vendetta against Hush, Hush. I read it way back when it came out and it remains one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I hope the second half of 2021 treats you well!

  20. “I am going to cheat because, I am proud to say that I am a morally grey character.” <– I don't think I've ever related so hard to a single sentence. Please imagine me pumping my fist and screaming "Solidarity!" LOL But seriously, this post was a lot of fun to read! So thank you.

  21. I have to say I’m not freaking out either. Finished my 1st year of master’s at the end of April and have not read much this year before summer started so I’m taking it easy. Really enjoyed Red, White & Royal Blue. I just got Why We Fly (oct 2021) so I’m excited about that.
